10: Mexico
On number 10 we have Mexico, which has taken the number 10 spot from Japan in 2017 leaving Japan behind. Mexico’s population is
about 130.7 million people and it shares about 1.65% of the total world
population. The median age in Mexico is 29.2 years and the fertility rate is 2.14.
About 1.35 million people are added to Mexico’s population every year.
9: Russia
On number 9 we have Russia. Russia’s population
is 146.01 million people and it shares about 1.87% of the total world population. The median age in Russia is 39.6 years and the fertility rate is 1.82. Due to the
high median age and low fertility rate, Russia may face an aging problem in the
near future. Russia’s population is currently on the decline with an annual
change of 62206 only. After a few years, Russia may be out of the top 10. Russia
is the largest country in the world by area so its population density is 9 per
square kilometers only and it is one of the least densely populated countries
also. To overcome the aging population problem Russia may allow more immigrants to
come there in near future.
8: Bangladesh
On number 8 we have Bangladesh whose
population is currently 168.6 million and it shares 2.11% of the total world
population. The median age in Bangladesh is 27.6 years and the fertility rate is
2.05. Now the land area of Bangladesh is only 130170 square kilometers, so its
population density is 1278 people per square kilometre and it is one of the
most densely populated countries in the world. Bangladesh is trying hard to
control its population and its annual change is now coming down slightly.
7: Nigeria
On number 7 we have Nigeria with 212.9 Million people and
it shares around 2.64% of the total world population. Its median is 18.1 years
and it is probably the youngest population in the world. In the past few years, Nigeria has surpassed many countries in ranking and has witnessed a very fast
population growth. With the fertility of 5.42 and an annual increase of 5.2 million, it is ready to give you many more surprises in the coming future. Nigeria may pass Brazil in a year and will take the number 6 spot from it and it may also cross Pakistan in near future.
6: Brazil
On number 6 we have Brazil with a population of 214.5 million people and it shares about 2.73% of the total world population. The median age in Bangladesh is 33.5 years and the fertility rate is 1.74. Brazil has done a fantastic job in bringing down its population and its annual growth is now only 1.5 million people. Like Russia and China, Brazil may also face an aging problem in the near future. Brazil is recently crossed by Pakistan and taken its number 5 spot and it will be soon passed by Nigeria as well and you will soon see Brazil on number 7.
5: Pakistan
On number 5 we have Pakistan with a population of 226.6 million people and it shares about 2.83% of the total world population. The median age in Pakistan is 22 years and the fertility rate is 3.55. With an annual change of 4.3 million people Pakistan’s population is still on the rise. Now Pakistan has for the first time witnessed a slight drop in its annual growth in 2018 due to a fertility rate decrease of 6.6 in 1955 to 3.55 in 2021. Pakistan has recently taken the number 5 spot from Brazil.
4: Indonesia
On number 4 we have Indonesia with a
population of 277.3 million people and it shares 3.51% of the total world
population. The median age in Indonesia is 29.7 years and the fertility rate is
2.32. In the past few years, Indonesia has achieved a slight decline in its
annual growth, which is a good sign but still a lot is required to be done.
Indonesia adds 2.89 million people to its population annually.
3: United States of America
On number, we have the USA with a
population of 333.5 million people and it shares 4.25% of the total world
population. The median age in the USA is 38.3 years and the fertility rate is 1.78.
Annual change is 1.93 million but not only to ordinary factors as about 900000
immigrants are added to USA’s population every year. Looking at its high median
age and aging population, the USA may even need to add more immigrants to its
population in the coming years to support its declining workforce.
2: India
On number 2 we have India with a population of 1
billion and 397 million and it shares about 17.70% of the total world
population. The median age in India is 28.4 years and the fertility rate is 2.24.
About 13.5 million people have added to India’s population annually, and it may
cross China from 2023 to 2025 and it will become the country with the highest
population in the world. Although India is trying hard to control its
population but so far not been so successful.
1: China
On number 1 we have China with a population of 1
billion and 446 million people and it shares about 18.47% of the total world
population. The median age in China is 38.4 years and the fertility rate is 1.69.
Now due to the one-child policy introduced in China around the 80s, China has
put great control over its population and it will soon lose the number 1 spot to
India in coming years. Currently, in China annual change is about 5.5 million
and in around 2035 China may witness a decrease in its population for the first
time in history due to its high median age low fertility rates, but well is
that going to happen? Because recently China has put an end to its one-child
policy and replaced it with 2 child policy due to the fear of the aging problem of
china’s population as many experts say that by 2030 more of its population
will be above the 60s.
So these were the top 10 most populous countries in the
world. What do you think about the future of these countries, will they be able
to control their population in any way and will they be able to solve the aging
problem related to population control? Please give us your opinion on the
subject and share it with your family and friends also.
Regards.
